Solving a Fundamental Problem

If a trap doesn't land right, it can't fish right

Lobster Trap

A Common Problem

Wire traps are noted for not landing correctly a significant percentage of the time (up to 40%). Prop wash from a large wheel is a major culprit, along with tide, deep water, and turns following an edge. It is the nature of a wire trap to not be able to right itself, especially in these conditions.

The result is potentially wasted fuel, bait, and time for a lobsterman. With high fuel and bait prices, this situation can quickly become costly.

An Effective Solution

The Steady Clip is a steadying device installed on lobster traps which ensures that the trap will land right-side-up. Divers following traps that were purposely set upside down confirm that the trap will right itself and land right-side-up every time when it is equipped with the Steady Clip. Watch the underwater video here.

The Steady Clip is made of an extremely tough engineered polymer and comprised of two parts: the Hammer and the Base Plate. The Base Plate is attached to the lobster trap with integral clips and further secured by two stainless steel hog rings (provided with each order). The Hammer rests on a pivot bar on the Base Plate, and specially made 5/16" bungee cord with a specifc tension supplies the power for the Steady Clip's operation. The looped bungee cord comes installed on the Hammer, ready for use.
