R. Knight & Sons is a family-owned small business located in Cape Neddick, Maine. The creator of the Steady Clip and the Hoop Gate, R. Knight & Sons has helped hundreds of lobstermen catch more lobsters by the use of the Steady Clip and the Hoop Gate in New England, Canada, and beyond.
Rick Knight, a marine engineer, lobsterman for over 45 years, and founder of R. Knight & Sons, invented the Steady Clip and the Hoop Gate after coming to the realization that his lobster traps were not always fishing. By creating an ingenuitive trap level indicator using test tubes and a molasses mixture, Rick proved that a significant number of his traps were not landing correctly on the ocean floor. The Steady Clip became the solution to this problem.
He would later invent the Hoop Gate, after discovering that some lobsters could get out of his traps that he'd worked so hard to make land right.
